Painting En Plein Air

I’m so happy that I’ve started ramping up my en plein air trips in order to practice painting landscapes out on location. For me, this really is the best way to improve painting skills quickly and there’s nothing like getting the real feeling and colours of being outside in the landscape rather than working from photos which often change the tones or colours dramatically. For example, photos often silhouette forms when backlit by the sun, but in reality you can see far more colour. Plus it’s a lot of fun!

Here are a few paintings from my recent trips

I’m excited to be taking my plein air easel on an art retreat abroad in the next few weeks and can’t wait to show you how it goes. I’ll post about it soon! Any guesses where I’m going? If you’d like to join me painting en plein air, do check out my forthcoming workshops here and join me painting here in Kent!
