Impressions from Afar

A series of impressionistic oil paintings inspired by my travels

This series draws its inspiration from travels across Europe and, on occasion, further afield. Yet these places and subjects serve only as points of departure. Once the initial impression is established, the paintings evolve instinctively, guided through a process of intuition, memory, and abstraction.

Deeply influenced by Whistler's belief that a painting should not function as a mere record of reality, I approach each work as a harmonious arrangement. My intention is to evoke the atmosphere of a place: the sensation of light, the resonance of memory, and the emotional feeling of a fleeting moment. My aim is not to describe but to evoke its presence—the atmosphere lingering after the details have faded, the emotional residue of a passing moment.

These works seek to capture impressions; they are invitations to linger in an experience. They seek to evoke the spirit of a place through suggestion, leaving space for the viewer's own imagination and interpretation. They are a whisper - a poetic echo of a place once encountered
